英語の CV を書き、英語の面接に備える

はじめに

海外の研修・留学プログラムや、外資系企業・海外の大学院に応募するときは、英語の履歴書（CV）を出し、英語の面接を受けることがよくあります。このページでは、薬学部・生命科学部の学生が最初の1通を書き、最初の面接に臨むまでに必要なことをまとめています。

1. 英語の履歴書（CV）

CV と Resume の違い

英語の履歴書には、CV と Resume の2種類があります。

アカデミックな場面（留学・研究プログラム・大学院への応募）では、アメリカでも研究歴を並べた CV を求められることが多いため、このページでは CV の書き方 を扱います。
Curriculum Vitae と書かず、CV（シーヴィー） と呼ぶのが一般的です。

フォーマット

応募先から指定がない限り、フォーマットは自由です。どんな CV を出すかで、あなたのスキルやセンスが相手に伝わります。
ただし、自由でも書き方の作法はあります。作法を守りながら、自分の魅力が伝わるように工夫しましょう。

書く項目

必ず書く項目

Header and Contact Information（氏名と連絡先）
氏名・住所・メールアドレスを書きます。メールアドレスは、大学のアドレスを使うとプロフェッショナルに見えます。

ふつうは大学から書きます。学部生の場合は、高校から書くこともあります。新しいものを上に書きます。

書いておきたい項目（どれかは入れる）

何を入れるかは人それぞれです。自分をアピールできるものを選びましょう。経験を全部並べるのではなく、書くことで自分の強みが伝わるものを選ぶのがコツです。

スキルと語学

Skills（スキル）　実験の技術、プログラミングなど。
Languages（語学）　アピールできる場合だけ書きます。たとえば、英検2級はアピールとしては弱いでしょう。

そのほか

Websites & Social Links　しっかり作られた個人のウェブサイトや LinkedIn があれば書きます。
References（推薦者・照会先）　"Available on request."（ご要望があればお知らせします）とだけ書く方法もあります。書く場合は研究室の先生が一般的ですが、必ず事前に相談しましょう。

書くときのチェックリスト

• 写真・生年月日・性別・国籍は書かない。 英語圏の CV では、差別につながる情報として書かないのが一般的です（応募先に指定があれば従う）。
• 経験の説明は、動詞から書き始める（Supported ...、Conducted ...、Presented ...）。主語の I は書きません。
• 時制をそろえる。終わった経験は過去形、今も続いている経験は現在形。
• 日付の書き方を、最初から最後まで同じ形にそろえる（例：Apr 2024 - Present）。
• 書体は1種類、文字の大きさは本文 10〜12 ポイントに。
• 提出は PDF で。ファイル名は「CV_YAMADA_Hanako.pdf」のように、名前が分かる形に。
• 最後に、スペルと文法を必ず見直す。可能なら、先生や英語の得意な人に読んでもらう。

1. Could you tell me about yourself?（あなたについて教えてください）

CV や応募書類にすでに書いていても、面接の最初によく聞かれる質問です。
この質問はウォームアップであり、面接の導入です。きちんと準備してきたか、コミュニケーションの力があるかも見られています。自信がなくても、堂々と、相手の目を見て、はっきりした声で話しましょう。
まずは 30秒くらい で話す練習から始めるとよいでしょう。

見本の答え（Sample answer）

I am currently a fourth-year student at the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ritsumeikan University. I belong to the Bioanalytical Chemistry Laboratory, where I have been conducting research on glycosaminoglycans. I will complete my graduation thesis, titled "XXX," this December, and I will then take the National Examination for Pharmacists to obtain a license to work as a pharmacist in Japan. I am a confident and responsible student, and I enjoy taking on new challenges. I believe this experience will be an essential step in my growth as a pharmacy student and toward my goal of becoming a hospital pharmacist with a global mindset.

2. Why should we hire you? / Why do you want to participate in this program?（なぜあなたを採用すべきですか？／なぜこのプログラムに参加したいのですか？）

相手が求めているスキル・資格・経験・適性を自分が持っていること、そしてそれに加えた自分なりの強みを述べましょう。
「自分が成長したいから」という自分だけの利益ではなく、自分が参加することで、相手（あるいは社会・地域・世界）にどんな良いことがあるかを考えてみましょう。

見本の答え

I believe I can contribute to this program in two ways. First, through my research in bioanalytical chemistry, I have developed careful laboratory skills and the habit of checking data thoroughly. Second, as an educational supporter for an English course, I learned how to explain difficult ideas clearly to others. After the program, I would like to share what I learn with students at my university, so that more pharmacy students become interested in working in international settings.

3. What are your strengths?（あなたの強みは何ですか？）

いろいろな答え方がありますが、ぼんやりしたことだけを言うより、具体的なエピソードや例を添えましょう。
たとえば、1. で述べた自分の資質をもう一度挙げ、学生時代の具体的なエピソードを足します。CV にも書いたエピソードだと、特に印象に残りやすくなります。相手が何を求めているかを考え、かけ離れたことは言わないようにしましょう。

見本の答え

My greatest strength is my persistence. In my research, my experiments did not work for almost three months. Instead of giving up, I reviewed each step of the procedure with my supervisor and finally found that the problem was the pH of the buffer. This experience taught me to stay calm and solve problems step by step, which I believe is essential for a pharmacist.

4. What are your goals? / Where do you want to be in three years?（あなたの目標は何ですか？／3年後にどうなっていたいですか？）

就職活動なのか、留学プログラムなどへの応募なのかで、答え方が変わります。

• 6年制の4回生が留学プログラムに応募する場合：社会に出たとき、このプログラムで得た経験をどう活かしているかを述べます。
• 6回生が就職活動をしている場合：キャリアの目標を具体的に述べます。
• 「3年後」と期間を指定された場合：これまでに述べたスキルや強みが、目標に向かってどう伸びているかを述べます。それが応募先でどう実現するのかを、よく考えておきましょう。

見本の答え（就職活動の場合）

In three years, I would like to be a hospital pharmacist who can confidently support patients from diverse backgrounds, including those who do not speak Japanese. I also hope to be involved in clinical research, using the analytical skills I developed during my university research.

面接で役立つ表現

逆質問（Do you have any questions for us?）は必ず用意しておきましょう。 "No, I don't." で終えると、関心が低いと受け取られることがあります。

AI で面接の練習をする

プロンプトをコピー

生成 AI（ChatGPT、Gemini、Copilot など）を面接官にして、英語の面接を練習できます。下のプロンプト（AI への指示文）をコピーして貼り付け、"START" と入力すると始まります。
（薬剤師の英語の「Pharmacy Roleplay Assistant」と同じ使い方です。）

You are an interviewer for a study abroad program or a job at a pharmaceutical company or hospital.
The user is a Japanese pharmacy or life science student practicing an English interview.

Rules:
1. When the user types "START", ask what they are applying for, then begin the interview.
2. Ask one question at a time. Include these four questions:
   "Could you tell me about yourself?", "Why do you want to participate in this program?"
   (or "Why should we hire you?"), "What are your strengths?", and "Where do you want to be in three years?"
   Add one or two natural follow-up questions based on the user's answers.
3. Speak clearly, in natural but not too difficult English. Do not correct the user during the interview.
4. At the end, ask "Do you have any questions for us?"
5. When the user types "FEEDBACK", give feedback in English and Japanese on:
   (a) content: did the answers include specific examples and show value to the program or employer?
   (b) English: list up to five expressions to improve, with better versions.
   (c) delivery: length and clarity of each answer.
6. Never ask for real personal information such as addresses or phone numbers.

注意：AI の答えや直しが、いつも正しいとは限りません。大事な応募書類や面接の準備では、先生にも相談しましょう。
